New Queensberry Albums

Things have been really busy this fall. Since the weather here in Central Texas is so great, everyone wants to get married this time of year. I’ve had the honor of photographing some really sweet weddings, of which I promise to post some highlights of very soon. Chris and I bought a new (old) house, so I’ve also been coordinating the move, as well as some renovations. So, blogging had dropped a little on my priority list. I’ve been cranking out albums to clients and have had some STUNNING Queensberry albums come through the office, so I thought I would post some pics of them. I’ve been using Queensberry Albums for over 5 years and cannot preach enough good things about the quality, craftsmanship and beauty of them. I know I have not been posting as much as usual, but I promise to bring you more weddings, portraits and goings-on very soon. So, stay tuned!

Kelly and Billy’s album is a 12×12 pagemount with Stone raw silk cover. Cover features a vertical photo motif.

Alexa and Eric’s album is a 12×12 Duo (combines flush and pagemount style images) with a black leather cover. Names are engraved in Futura font.

Just got an incredible black Japanese silk album from Queensberry and it’s all for me! Well, it’s a studio sample. Images were from the wedding of Anne and Gabe.

You’ve heard me say it a bunch….Queensberry makes the finest handcrafted albums on the planet. The quality is simply the best. Their style is so modern and fresh, yet not too trendy. These albums are creative, but will never go out of style. I’ve always thought it is so important to showcase my images in albums that fit the style of my work and this one certainly does that. It’s a blend of matted images, as well as flush images (that go right to the edge of the page). You can read more about Queensberry and their Duo albums here.

Cece’s Bridals

I had a great time not too long ago photographing Cece’s bridal portraits. Many thanks to the coordinator extraordinaire Aimee Villa of Lizze Belle Events for sending Cece my way. Here are just a few highlights. You’ll notice about half of the images are of Cece in her vintage fur stall (which was her grandmother’s). She looked SO beautiful in it!
Mostly shot with my Canon 35mm 1.4, I love how it creates such an organic sharpness. In other words, I don’t have to rely on Photoshop filters after the fact;) It’s just a fantastic lens. Enjoy…

Michelle and Lance

I photographed Michelle and Lance’s wedding at the Dallas Botanical Garden and the Park Cities Club. They were actually referred to me by previous clients of mine, Emily and Ryan. One nice thing about being a photographer is that it takes me to such a variety of places and I get to befriend all types of people. From the more eclectic to traditional, I love them all. Michelle and Lance’s wedding was definitely on the classic side. The garden ceremony was a small and intimate, yet the dancing they did at the reception felt like a party of 500! Congrats to you both. Thanks for choosing me to be a part of your day.

This has to be some of the most amazing lighting I’ve ever captured. I know it’s not flare, but I’ve always been attracted to things that are more subtle.

It’s always weird, but fun, to see pics of me taking pics…this one I was totally scared of falling flat on my behind.

Anne and Gabe

Anne and Gabe live in Montana, but decided to come back to their native land of Texas to get married. Their ceremony was held on Anne’s family ranch near Concan (about 4 hours from Austin). The moment I saw the huge tree and ranch house where they would have their ceremony, I knew this would be a uniquely beautiful day. The house was built in the 30’s, and it alone was a dream for me to photograph, especially with all it’s historic charm. We all know vintage is quite the trend in weddings (and fashion in general), but like I mentioned in my first post about Anne and Gabe, this was all “As Real as It Gets.” All the vintage you see here is 100% real. It’s something I admire so much in my clients, their ability to incorporate unique elements into their wedding, as well as maintaining a sense of being totally authentic.

Another Exquisite Queensberry Album

Angela and Manny got married way back on October 2007. They just got their amazing Queensberry and I had to post some pics of it. I am a HUGE Queensberry fan. They make the finest wedding albums in the world. Really! Ask any professional photographer about Queensberry and they will tell you the quality and craftsmanship is simply the finest. If you are going to get an album, you should have one that will last for generations to come. I am not only referring to the physical longevity of the album, but also the look of the album should be timeless. This is where Queensberry has everyone else beat. They have a very timeless and yet fresh look to their albums (this is exactly how I would describe my photography).

As a person who tries to run their business in an environmentally responsible way, it is very important that the products I offer my clients are also consistent with these practices. Please read below for a bit taken from the “Queensberry Connects” newsletter.

I love it when client’s choose this option. Queensberry will make a custom mat for the wedding invitation on the first page of the album.

“Queensberry’s philosophy on the environment and sustainability…
Humanity’s biggest impact on the environment is generally from our daily practices.
That coffee is gone in five or ten minutes, for example, but the disposable cup lid lasts for generations.
Same with sushi, salad, groceries, magazines – most of the products people buy day to day. Waste from products and their packaging vastly outlasts the products themselves. And the sheer volume of what we buy makes each seemingly trivial purchase overwhelming in its impact. At Queensberry our albums last for generations, not the packaging we deliver them in.
-We ship our products with recycled/recyclable cartons and biodegradable plant-based pellets that can be reused or composted, and break down within minutes when wet.
-To ensure the longevity of the albums themselves our policy is to use only the best time-honored materials and hand binding processes, and our sustainability policies reflect that mindset.
-Because our products are handmade, our bindery consumes little energy compared with intensive machinery-based operations, and offers rewarding jobs to a skilled team.
-To reduce both our costs and environmental impact we closely monitor all production inputs, and recycle all recyclable waste, for example the silver from our Lab, and paper and card from the Bindery.
-We avoid the use of toxins or heavy metals in the production of our albums. For example we selected our new micro leathers not only for their beauty and durability but also for the environmentally responsible policies of their manufacturer, with no heavy metals, formaldehydes etc used in their production.
-In general we maintain “narrow and deep” relationships with suppliers, with a strong focus on quality, dependability and sustainability – policies that reflect our own. For example our card stock is specially made for us by a mill that must maintain the highest possible environmental standards simply because it adjoins England’s Lake District National Park, and has done since 1845.
To ship our albums we use German logistics company DHL, which is committed to improving its carbon efficiency by 30% by 2020 (10% by 2012). Like all freight, shipping our albums has an environmental impact. But, as we mentioned earlier, the impact of freighting an album intended to last for generations is minimal in a world where it is everyday practice to ship food and flowers around the globe and forget the rhythm of the seasons.
-Finally, we are proudly based in New Zealand, where most energy comes from renewable resources, our workplace and environmental practices are carefully regulated and our clean, green image is a source of national pride.
-Of course there is always room for improvement. This year we will be reviewing our own in-house practices as well as investigating the feasibility of a surface shipping and carbon offset program as an option for our clients”.
